Month of Prayer and Fasting

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13-16)

Once again, we will be fasting throughout the whole month of January. Prayerfully consider when and how to fast during this month. God may lead you into fasting food, media or other things as He calls us to holiness. God may call you to fast for one day, three days or many days in a row and He may have you do it more than once in the month. We do have specific prayer times and a three-day food fast planned during the month (see events below). Focus your heart on being a holy priesthood (1 Pet. 2:5), a holy nation (1 Pet. 2:9) and to honour Christ the Lord as holy (1 Pet. 3:15).
Specific corporate prayer times will happen during the month. We expect that you will be praying throughout the month and that during these corporate prayer times we will come together with a zeal and preparation that comes from having already been fasting and praying. We hope that you will make these times of prayer a priority to attend and that you schedule them as soon as possible. Corporate prayer times are as follows:
– Tuesday, January 9 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
– Saturday, January 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
– Sunday, January 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
We are also calling the church to specifically fast food from Thursday, January 18 through Saturday, January 20. How you fast food is between you and God (and possibly your doctor). If you are already fasting food at this time, we would like to encourage you to take an extra step of faith during these three days of fasting. This may involve taking a food fast to a different level or adding some other means of fasting while you fast food for these three days.
To the right are several documents that you may find helpful during a time of fasting and prayer.
Fasting is something that should be done responsibly, so please seek the advice of your doctor, especially if you have a medical condition of any sort.
