Have you ever had a song stick in your mind?  It’s usually one of those annoying songs with a catching hook in it and it takes singing the theme from the Flintstones to get it out of there.  That’s one way of having a song sticking with you.  Now, have you ever had a song stick in your spirit?  You wake up with it in the morning … it pulses in you through the day … one chord from the song refreshes it in your mind even if it comes from hearing some other song.

I have a song stuck in my spirit.  I believe it’s a call to our church today.  I believe it’s a call to you today.  I believe it’s a call to me today.  Some songs have seasons where they are more relevant than others and I believe this is the season for this song.

The lyrics of the song are as follows, but I would encourage you to also follow the link below so that you can hear/experience the song.

Sing My Love
by Sarah and John Mark McMillan ©2007

VERSE 1
Words can never say the way He says my name
He calls me lovely
No one ever sees the way He looks at me
He sees me holy

PRE-CHORUS
Earth can never hold
This love that burns my soul
Heaven holds me; Heaven holds me

CHORUS
I can't hold my love back from You
I can't hold my love back from You
I've gotta sing; I've gotta sing
Sing my love

VERSE 2
You would not believe the way He touches me
He burns right through me
And I could not forget ev'ry word He says
He always knew me

TAG
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord
My soul makes, makes its boast in the Lord

Many of us have inherited a reserved nature that is cultural but not biblical when it comes to expressing out love and worship to God.  Not only in singing our love but also in sharing Christ with others.  I am not advocating that we all get a box and stand on corners preaching but that we share Christ and our love for Him in far more meaningful and impactful ways.

The presence, power and passion of God are coming upon us.  Like Paul we will have to claim, “the love of Christ compels us.” (2 Cor. 5:14)  Like Jeremiah, you will have God’s word for people “in your heart like a burning fire, shut up in your bones.” (Jer. 20:9)  Like the people who praised Jesus at His coming into Jerusalem, we will have to cry out our praise or the very rocks will do it because of his magnificent presence. (Luke 19:38-40)

Sing the song of this season.  Sing it not simply from your mouth but from your very being—through all of your thoughts, words and actions.

Bless you all,

Pastor Merril
