Making a StandThere are issues in our world and society that demand our attention continuously. Issues including poverty, famine, natural disasters and societal change are on our televisions, radios, billboards and newspapers. Without diminishing concerns that you and others may have, we will post concerns that FCC finds pertinent on this page.LGBTQ Ideals Attempting to be Affirmed in Public InstitutionsWe are seeing a move from simply asking for equality of value as persons to the affirmation of a lifestyle that is not biblically endorsed. This is seen in the first draft of the Edmonton Publich School Board policy on "
Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity." It is even clearer in the
Toronto School District which does not allow parents to opt-out their children from education that is not only to prevent violence but encourages/affirms values concerning gender and sexuality that are unbiblical. Pastor Merril wrote a letter to the editor of the Edmonton Journal in response to an article that was printed telling Christian parents concerned with their values to leave the public school system and compaining about funds they would receive even if starting a private school. Check out Pastor Merril's letter on the
Current Issues Blog.

Chris has been an active participatiant in the life of Freedom Centre Church since 2000, and took over the role of youth pastor in 2009. He is always looking for creative solutions for youth ministry at FCC. He enjoys running, soccer, hitting things with sticks (sometimes that means playing drums), and likes reading X-men comic books. The youth ministry has grown from three people and a foosball table, into a growing youth drop-in centre that serves the Sifton Park Area. He is looking forward to being more involved with this community which he feels called to.
Nathan is a passionate worship of Jesus. His heart's desire is to see people come into a greater understanding and relationship with the Lord through worship and the arts. He believes that worship is so much more than just our songs on a Sunday, but it is a life that is to be lived which glorifies Christ. In 2009 Nathan married the love of his life, Destiny and they are expecting their first child in November 2011. Nathan is an avid computer gamer and loves to enjoy a good round of golf (for the couple months it is playable here in Alberta). He loves to travel, and has had the opportunity to see and minister in different places around the globe.

Merril is a passionate and gifted teacher. His love for God's Word and His presence is evidenced in all aspects of his ministry. Merril is happily married to his wife, Betty. They have 2 amazing children, Natasha and Sheldon. Merril has a vision for seeing a full expression of God moving beyond the walls of the building the church meets in and into the community. He believes this is best accomplished by people understanding their God-given destiny and becoming free and empowered to walk in it.
Counseling and Inner HealingLife gets tough. We understand that there are times when situations around us can become overwhelming. The situations, circumstances or tradgedies can become like heavy bagage that we carry around with us through life. So often there is feelings of guilt or shame that comes along with this baggage, but Jesus adresses this in Matthew 10:30 saying. "For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light".Here at the Freedom Centre we believe that God has called every person to live free from this bondage and bagage. We recognize that it is sometimes impossible to break free on our own, which is why we strive to make available a wide range of counseling and inner healing ministries to see people living the way God intended. These ministries include:Sozo MInistry (Saved, Healed, Delivered) - For more information click hereFamily CounselingMarriage CounselingPre-Marriage Counseling Trauma and Grief CounselingGeneral Pastoral MInistry
Upper Room FastGod is calling us to come before Him in fasting and prayer in conjunction with the 10 days that the disciples spent in prayer between Jesus' ascension and the Day of Pentecost. Seek God for how He would have you fast through this time. During the fast, we will be meeting at the church every night starting at 7:00 PM for worship and prayer.Pastor Merril has written a letter to provide a greater understanding of the Vision and Purpose for this fast. We have also put together A Practical Guide to Fasting to help you if fasting is new to you. In addition, there is also a Upper Room Fast Commitment page you can use to help in making your commitment and in reminding yourself of it.Pastor Merril will also be keeping an Upper Room Fast Diary in a daily blog. Worship and Arts"In the begining, God created..." (Genesis 1:1a)Creativity is something that comes from the very heart of God and infiltrates all that we are. We believe that God has ordained creativity through music and the arts to be an expression of our love and adoration of a God who first loved us. Worship is more than just a song or a dance, but it is something to be woven into the very tapestry of our lives. Everything that we do in life should in some way be an expression of our worship and love towards God. Our corporate gatherings (Sunday Morning Church) are simply an expression of what is taking place in our lives Monday-Saturday. We believe that we are called to gather and join in unity to bless God and seek Him through many different expressions. Our music style is a blend of timeless hymns and cutting edge new music that brings us closer to the heart of God. Our desire is to see a body of people who's expression of love and adoration to the Father can't be quenched or silenced. In addition to music, we believe that God has gifted people in dance and the Creative Arts to be able to express their worship to the Father and help draw the body into a greater experience of His presence. God is creative, and therefore our worship should reflect all that He has created in us, not simply imitate what others have done.If you are interested in joining in the Worship and Creative Arts team in any capactiy (musician, singer, sound and lighting) please contact Pastor Nathan Plante @
nathanp@freedomcentre.org and he would love to be in contact with you in regards to where you fit.

A brief history...Local churches have a life story, as it is a living, growing part of the Body of Christ. Each church has its own unique personality and characteristics, and each faces its own unique challenges and changes. This life story is impacted by both the leadership and congregation through the years. The following is a small collage of pictures of that story here at The Freedom Centre. The Freedom Centre’s life story begins in year of 1955, when Reverend M. Gardziliwich began services in the Beverly district. They were using the Maranatha Christian Reformed Church before they began construction of their building in 1957. The church was a Ukrainian-speaking congregation and was registered with the Western Slavic Conference of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, under the name of the BeverleyPentecostal Tabernacle.By 1964, the services were totally in English, so the church registration transferred from the Western Slavic Conference to the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. ReverendGardziliwich cared for the older Slavic-speaking people while Pastor Paul Kerychuk pastored the English-speaking congregation. In 1976, the Beverley Pentecostal Tabernacle purchased an acre in the Clareview district, where the existing building is now. Once the move was made, the church also changed its name, now becoming the Clareview Pentecostal Assembly. The church out-grew its existing building in 1982 thus an extension to the existing building got under way.The church has had many wonderful pastors and church members who have given themselves to seeing God impact the lives of those in the church and community. In the mid-90s Pastor David Puls and some members began leading in a spiritual awakening to the moving of the Holy Spirit. As the new millennium approached, Pastor Lance Steeves came on staff under Pastor Puls and contributed to the move towards a more modernworship environment and a deeper call to prayer and intercession. This direction and growth continued as Pastor Lance became interim pastor in the spring of 1999 when Pastor David followed a call into teaching at Central Pentecostal Bible College (now Horizon College & Seminary). In November 1999 Pastor Kenton Rustulka began his ministry as lead pastor. In 2000, God began the process of changing the church’s name to become The Freedom Centre Church – Edmonton. God was also continuing His work of changing the church to become a reflection of the name God wanted it to have. This also included developing a new constitution and by-laws for the church to fit a more biblical model. After much work, the new document was presented to the congregation at its Annual General Meeting in the spring of 2008, where it was approved.Following the establishment of the new Elder Council, Pastor Kenton went on a sabbatical. At the end August, Pastor Kenton returned and expressed to the elders of the church that his need for the sabbatical remained and for health reasons chose to resign as chief-elder. The church then went through another transition which led to Pastor Merril Radford being established as the new chief-elder in April of 2009. Pastor Merril continues to build upon the work of previous leaders and saints who have poured their lives out in prayer and service to their Lord.

|We Believe|HOLY SCRIPTURES All Scripture is given by inspiration of God by which we understand the whole Bible to be inspired in the sense that holy men of God were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. Divine inspiration extends equally and fully to all parts of the original writings. The whole Bible in the original is, therefore, without error and, as such, is infallible, absolutely supreme and sufficient in authority in all matters of faith and practice. The Bible does not simply contain the Word of God, but is, in reality, the complete revelation and very Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit. Christian believers today receive spiritual illumination to enable them to understand the Scriptures, but God does not grant new revelations that are contrary or additional to inspired biblical truth.THE GODHEAD The Godhead exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, having the same nature and attributes and are worthy of the same homage, confidence, and obedience.THE FATHER The Father exists eternally as the Creator of heaven and earth, the Giver of the Law, to whom all things will be subjected, so that He may be all in all.THE SON The Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal and only begotten Son of the Father, is true God and true man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and by His sinless life, miracles and teaching, gave full revelation of the Father. He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitution sacrifice. He rose from the dead. He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest. He will come again to establish His kingdom in righteousness and peace.THE HOLY SPIRIT The Holy Spirit is also God, performing actions and possessing the attributes of the Deity. His personality is shown by the fact that He has personal characteristics and that individuals may relate to Him as a person. MANMan was originally created in the image and likeness of God. He fell through sin and, as a consequence, incurred both spiritual and physical death. Spiritual death and the depravity of human nature have been transmitted to the entire human race with the exception of the Man Christ Jesus. Man can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. ATONEMENT OF CHRIST Salvation has been provided for all men through the sacrifice of Christ upon the cross. It is the only perfect redemption and substitution atonement for all the sins of the world, both original and actual. His atoning work has been proven by His resurrection from the dead. Those who repent and believe in Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and receive eternal life. Furthermore, in the atonement, divine healing was provided for all believers. REPENTANCE AND FAITH Man can be born again only through faith in Christ. Repentance, a vital part of believing, is a complete change of mind wrought by the Holy Spirit, turning a person to God from sin. JUSTIFICATION Justification is a judicial act of God by which the sinner is declared righteous solely on the basis of his acceptance of Christ as Saviour. ASSURANCE Assurance of salvation is the privilege of all who are born again by the Spirit through faith in Christ, resulting in love, gratitude and obedience toward God. SANCTIFICATION Sanctification is dedication to God and separation from evil. In experience it is both instantaneous and progressive. It is produced in the life of the believer by his appropriation of the power of Christ's blood and risen life through the person of the Holy Spirit; He draws the believer's attention to Christ, teaches him through the Word and produces the character of Christ within him. Believers who sin must repent and seek forgiveness through faith in the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience in which the believer yields control of himself to the Holy Spirit. Through this he comes to know Christ in a more intimate way and receives power to witness and grow spiritually. Believers should earnestly seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. The initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. This experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of the new birth.THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT The gifts of the Spirit are supernatural abilities given by God through the exercising of which believers are enabled to minister effectively and directly in particular situations. They serve the dual function of building up the church and of demonstrating the presence of God within His church.DIVINE HEALING Divine healing provided in the atonement of Christis the privilege of all believers. Prayer for the sick and gifts of healing are encouraged and practised.THE LORD'S SUPPERThe Lord's Supper is a symbol, memorial and proclamation of the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. This ordinance of communion is to be participated in by believers until Christ's return.WATER BAPTISM Water baptism signifies the believer's identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection and is practised by immersion.MINISTRYA divinely called and ordained ministry is the provision of the Lord to give leadership to the church as it fulfils its purposes.THE PRESENT STATE OF THE DEAD At death the souls of believers pass immediately into the presence of Christ, and these remain in constant bliss until the resurrection of the glorified body. The souls of unbelievers remain after death conscious of condemnation until the final bodily resurrection and judgment of the unjust. THE RAPTURE The rapture, the blessed hope of the church, is the imminent coming of the Lord in the air to receive to Himself His own, both the living who shall be transformed, and the dead in Christ who shall be resurrected. This event takes place before the wrath of God is poured out during the tribulation. Believers then will appear before the judgment seat of Christ to be judged according to faithfulness in Christian service.THE TRIBULATION The tribulation will be a time of judgment on the whole earth. During this period the Antichrist will emerge to offer false hope to the nations.THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST The return of Christ to earth in power and great glory will conclude the great tribulation with the victory at Armageddon, the defeat of Antichrist and the binding of Satan. Christ will introduce the millennial age, restore Israel to her own land, lift the curse which now rests upon the whole creation, and bring the whole world to the knowledge of God.THE FINAL JUDGMENT There will be a final judgment in which the unbelieving dead will be raised and judged at the great white throne, according to their works. The beast and false prophet, the devil and his angels, and whoever is not found in the Book of Life, shall be cast into the lake of fire, not to annihilation but to everlasting punishment, which is the second death.THE ETERNAL STATE OF THE RIGHTEOUS The righteous will share the glory of God in the new heaven and the new earth for eternity.
| Purpose| We exist to be beacons of light that point our community and world toward a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We seek to do this by demonstrating His holy love and transforming power. Our passion is to be a people who experience God together:HIS PERSONHIS PRESENCEHIS POWER| Mission ITo grow and help others grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ, thereby revealing God, our Father, and His Kingdom to the world
I Core Values IRelationship:Humanity was not designed to live isolated. We are not built to be islands unto ourselves. We desire to be a place where people can grow in relationship. First and foremost with God (the author of all relationships) and secondly with man.Restoration We desire to be a place where brokeness is healed. We exist in a broken and dying world that is in desperate need for God's restoration. Our church is a place where people can come and find healing and wholeness through Him. We desire to go beyond the limits of our walls and see the fabric of our community transformed by His power.Reverence:At our church we strive to create an atmosphere were God's presence and His Word is given resepct and honor. We believe that He is a holy God and deserves our reverence. Apart from Jesus Himself, His written Word that we call the Bible is God's greatest communication to us and it is to be read, listened to and received with respect. We desire to be a people who stand in awe of all that He is.Relevance:In a era where our senses are flooded by nonsense, we believe the Word of God is something that is 100% applicable to our lives. Our church desires to be first relevant to God and secondly, relevant to people. It is only through preaching the Word of God in power that it becomes relevant to our lives. We desire to see the Word of God dwell in us and work through us to reach the world. Revelation: God. So far beyond our imagination, and yet He desires us to be closer to Him than a brother. We desire to have a full revelation of the character and nature of God, beyond that which pop culture would paint Him with. The depths of God are unfathomable, yet He says that if we seek Him, we will find Him. As a church, we never want to be satisfied with yesterday's understanding of God, because a relationship is filled with new discoveries.
